Never focussed on one sound (or indeed one location) the imprint has put out a wide gamut of sounds, ranging from R&B by Australian producer Silentjay (Sampa the Great/ Hiatus Kaiyote) to the neo- soul incantations of 30/70 via the retro Street-Soul productions of Manchester's Ruf Dug.While the labels wide ranging catalogue has had occasional run-ins with established musical heavyweights: be it Jordan Rakei in his Dan Kye guise, King Krule on production and vocals for Pinty, or Harvey Sutherland masquerading as Bad Channel on the INTL BLACK sub label - the raison d’être of the imprint has always been to unearth and nurture new talent, not just via the label but through the now established network of radio shows, concerts and club nights Rhythm Section has become known for.The compilation and accompanying tour, ‘SHOUTS’ is a continuation of this mission. Across 36 tracks it takes in past, present and most importantly, future elements of the label to make a clear statement of intent for the next 5 years and beyond.SHOUTS is a nod to the online radio culture that birthed the movement. Born out of a tarot card reading in New York City, Psychic Readings is a space for all her truest forthcoming experiments.On one side, Peach brings us Eclipse - a playful, punchy & positive ode to special moments. Synths shimmer between whimsical whirls of acid, and the bassline bounces us around in a state of bliss. The other side boasts a mood only Miss Cooky herself could be responsible for. The percussion is stripped back but that doesn’t mean it don’t slap! Sinking subs flirt with modular stabs for a simple yet sassy groove.Both sides are a testament to her sonic explorations through her years as a DJ. They are a bouncy ballad to Ms Cookys Psychic Readings.

Rhythm Section International's bumper Shouts 2021 sampler has been split into two and spread of a pair of vital 12"s. This is the swooned half and it is just a good as the first with our favorite being from the hugely prolific and mega-on form breakout artist of the year, Kareem Ali. His 'Black Futures' is a steamy, surging house track with kicking kicks and astral synths that speak to the soul. Hassan Abou Alam's 'Hella Mega Drive' spins hi hats, drums and bass into a tightly woven groove of no fixed genre and the swing in Pookie's 'Beast Mode' is simply irresistible. Big ups one and all.
