Without knowing it, you've probably heard Kelly Lee Owens' work over the past few years: the 27-year-old London producer contributed vocals and writing to several tracks on fellow UK techno wizard Daniel Avery's debut LP, 2014's 'Drone Logic,' and she's made waves with a pair of limited-release 12" singles showcasing her gifts for spectral, hallucinatory pop. On the “Oleic” EP, her debut release on Smalltown Supersound, Owens flexes her considerable muscle as a dance producer with four luscious, deeply satisfying slices of big-room electronic music.
Cuts from a clutch of Warrior Dance artists, including No Smoke, Addis Posse & Gary A'Gaye. Jonny Rock edit included. 4 club tracks here!
The project of Julien Huynh and Will Holden, Hybrid Man returns after releasing four spacious cuts of downtempo breaks and house in 2019. This time debuting on Butter Sessions, the tracks on Shapeshifting feel like a natural progression, equally well-crafted with the DJ in mind but with a slightly more trance influenced modus operandi.Opening with ‘Virtual Language’, the duo seemingly nods in the direction of Richard H. Kirk’s seminal Virtual State album, inspired by the futurism and warm robotic soundscapes of the 90s ambient techno scene. Dub FX and swirling basslines underpin the stylistic make-up of the EP, sharp breaks on the title track recalling 5AM catharsis in a pre-lockdown state of loved up rave bliss. Combining propulsive sequences with melancholic pads and melodies that are as easy to grab onto as they are lost the morning fog, the pair show a talent for holding the attention of the keen listener as they might the dancer. Indeed, those already attuned to the contemporary Australian underground might recognise Holden’s name from his slower paced work with Low Flung (also previously on Butter Sessions).Mixed and Mastered by Corey KikosArtwork by William Schmitt
Absolute Killer!!! Madteo backfires standardized club music with his first issue on own imprint M.A.D.T.E.O. RECORDS. A teasing disco stomper cuts through the whole A-side. Flip it and the club aspect is juxtaposed with two deep atmospheric and sonically heavy pieces. All about the A-side for us though. Essential!!
16 track LP of crazy ones.Producer Tony Price returns to Telephone Explosion Records with his new “MARK VI” LP, an eclectic set of songs with a distinctly late-night feel. The album features 16 tracks of oblique drum machine funk, sizzling electro dubs and freaky public access TV atmospheres that spill into the streets with the combustible energy of a late night radio dance party before dissolving into a melt of bizarro techno-surrealist jazz by album’s end.
